The Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee on Monday endorsed Craig Klausing for Roseville mayor.
Although the committee regularly recommends state legislative candidates from suburban areas, Klausing is the first mayoral candidate the organization has endorsed outside of St. Paul.
"Business people have come to better understand the importance of strong political leadership in our municipalities," said Dennis Carson, committee board member. "Local policy makers largely dictate the direction of growth and development, and that is why business cares about these races."
Klausing is a Roseville City Council member and an attorney at the Office of the Directory of Lawyers Professional Responsibility.
It is the second time in this year's closely watched Roseville mayoral election that a group that does not typically do so has endorsed a candidate.
In August, the 21st Century Democrats endorsed a suburban mayoral candidate for the first time in Minnesota when it recommended St. Paul attorney Tammy Pust.
Pust and Klausing beat three others in the primary and will face each other in the November general election.
